NABABGANJ, Bangladesh — The government has formally launched a family card distribution program for poor and underprivileged women in Nababganj upazila of Dinajpur, aimed at strengthening the economic independence of women from disadvantaged rural households.
The program was inaugurated Tuesday at an event managed by the upazila administration, where the cards were handed over to selected families. Officials said the initiative targets the financial empowerment of women in underserved villages and is designed to lift their living standards.
Through the family cards, enrolled households will be able to receive government-assigned services and subsidized food assistance directly, officials said. The program is expected to play an important role in ensuring food security for low-income families.
At the inauguration, officials said local representatives and the administration had worked together to compile a precise list of genuinely underprivileged and distressed families so that benefits reach those who need them most.
The card program will help poor families weather rising prices of essential goods, officials said. Local residents welcomed the initiative, saying the effort to make women financially independent would benefit the rural economy and support women’s empowerment.
