SHAHRASTI — Authorities have launched a mobile court raid against illegal soil cutting on farmland in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur. Acting on complaints from local residents, the raid was carried out against the unauthorized digging of farmland soil in the Ragoi area of South Suchipara union of the upazila. Deep soil cutting is destroying farmland and threatens to disrupt agricultural production. Authorities took immediate action after receiving the complaints.
The raid was led by Hillol Chakma, assistant commissioner for land and executive magistrate, on the directives of the upazila administration. He visited the site, inspected the soil-cutting area and took legal action against those involved in the illegal activity. Equipment used in the soil cutting was searched, and necessary directives were issued to bring the situation under control.
A team from Shahrasti police station and members of the upazila Ansar assisted in the raid.
Local residents said farmland was being damaged and their livelihoods threatened by the soil cutting. They said the mobile court raid had met a long-standing demand.
