TEHRAN — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Monday it had targeted an Israeli-owned container ship and a US amphibious assault warship.
In a statement carried by Iran’s state-run Sepah News, the IRGC released details of its 98th round of strikes against Israeli and US targets carried out earlier in the day.
The IRGC identified the container ship as the “SDN7,” saying it was struck precisely with cruise missiles and caught fire.
The Guard Corps also said the US amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA-7), which was carrying more than 5,000 troops, was forced to move toward the southern Indian Ocean after being targeted.
The IRGC also said its forces had carried out precision ballistic missile strikes against strategic centers in the Israeli city of Haifa, as well as the Bazan Petrochemical Company and other installations in Beersheba. An Israeli military gathering point in Petah Tikva, in central Israel, was also struck.
According to the IRGC, the missile and drone strikes also targeted a joint Emirati-Israeli drone production center and several aircraft at the Al Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates. On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States carried out joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with senior military officers and civilians. Iran responded with a series of missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US bases and assets in the Middle East and imposed strict controls over the Strait of Hormuz.
