GAZA — Israeli forces have continued strikes in Gaza despite international pressure to end the war, with the daily death toll among Palestinians seeking aid rising. At least 71 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks Wednesday while collecting aid, Al Jazeera reported.
Medical sources in Gaza said seven more people died in hospitals from famine and malnutrition.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 51 people were killed and more than 648 wounded by Israeli fire when aid trucks heading into northern Gaza were moving toward the Zikim crossing point on Wednesday.
Nasser Medical Complex said 20 more people seeking aid were killed near the so-called Morag corridor near Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Aid distribution sites run by the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which began operations in late May, have become death traps. More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks at GHF sites so far.
The United Nations and other humanitarian agencies have sharply criticized GHF for failing to provide adequate aid and for the dire security situation at and around its distribution points.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said 154 people, including 89 children, have died from malnutrition, most of them in recent weeks.
Despite growing need, the amount of aid Israel is allowing into Gaza falls far short of requirements.
The United Nations says at least 500 to 600 trucks of aid are needed in Gaza each day to meet basic humanitarian needs. Just 269 aid trucks have entered the Gaza Strip in the past four days.
