DHAKA — Bangladesh’s under-19 cricket team bounced back from a defeat to South Africa with a comfortable victory over Zimbabwe in a tri-nation series.
Azizul Hakim Tamim’s side had been on a winning run in the under-19 tri-nation series before losing by five wickets to South Africa the previous day. Bangladesh’s youth team returned to form Friday by beating Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh won the toss and put Zimbabwe in to bat. Zimbabwe were all out for 88 in 22.3 overs. Chasing 89, Bangladesh reached the target in 15.1 overs.
Alongside pace bowler Iqbal, Swadhin Islam and Sanjid Majumder played important roles, picking up two wickets each. Iqbal took the best figures of four wickets for 27 runs in 6.3 overs. For Zimbabwe, only Brandon Ndhiyani (20), Simbarashe Mujengere (11) and Tatenda Chimugoro (16) reached double figures.
In the chase, Rifat Beg fell for a duck on the sixth ball of the innings, but Bangladesh cruised to victory. Azizul Hakim remained not out on 47. Rizan Hossain added 21 in an unbroken 52-run partnership with Hakim. Kalam Siddiqui scored 20.
