DHAKA — A Dhaka court has ordered the arrest of former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, former minister Rashed Khan Menon and former ICT state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak in a case over the killing of student Mahadi Hasan Pantho, 18, in the capital’s Kadamtali Thana area during last year’s anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah issued the order Monday, Aug. 4, after a hearing. The three men were brought to court from the special prison in Keraniganj, where the case’s investigating officer, sub-inspector Md. Arif Hossain of Kadamtali Thana, sought their arrest in the case. The court granted the request and sent them back to prison.
According to the case, Pantho, an HSC examinee at Tolaram College, joined the July movement on July 19 last year in the Kadamtali Thana area of the capital. Around 4 p.m. that day, a bullet fired by the accused entered through the front of his face and exited through the back of his head. A case was filed at Kadamtali Thana on Nov. 8. Rashed is the seventh named accused, Inu the eighth and Palak the ninth.
Palak was arrested on the night of Aug. 14 last year. Police arrested Rashed Khan Menon on Aug. 22, and Hasanul Haq Inu on Aug. 26. The three have since been shown as arrested in more than 50 cases and have been remanded in custody.
