RAJSHAHI — Members of Chhatra Shibir have infiltrated even the left-wing student groups at Rajshahi University, a senior leader of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing said Thursday.
“Rajshahi University is such a university where Shibir has even penetrated the left. Such a person will take a post in another organization, but he is in fact a Shibir leader,” Amanullah Aman, central organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, said at a news conference at the university’s transport square on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 4.
Aman said Chhatra Dal had tried to contact the student leader involved in the matter but received no satisfactory response. He warned other Chhatra Dal members against similar incidents in the future.
According to university sources, Jannatul Naima Tuhina, a vice president of Chhatra Dal and a student at the university, posted on her personal Facebook page in protest after the provost of July 36 Hall summoned 91 students. A.R. Milon Khan, a vice president of Shah Makhdum Hall, made what students described as offensive comments in response. Thursday’s news conference was called to demand the maximum punishment for the accused.
