DHAKA — A major fire broke out Saturday in the cargo area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, drawing a response from army and navy personnel and 28 fire service units, officials said.
The blaze started suddenly at about 2:30 p.m.
Md. Masudul Hasan Masud, spokesperson for the airport’s executive director, said the fire began in a section next to the cargo village. Fire service crews, the Bangladesh Air Force and airport personnel were working to bring it under control, he said.
The airport authority said that as soon as the fire was reported, the airport fire section, the Bangladesh Air Force fire unit and other agencies rushed to the scene and joined efforts to fight the blaze.
All flight operations at the airport are currently normal, the authority said, urging the public to stay safe and alert.
