DHAKA — Authorities temporarily halted flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday after a fire broke out in the cargo village, civil aviation officials said. A Dhaka-bound flight was diverted to Sylhet.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh public relations officer Kawsar Mahmud confirmed the suspension at about 3:30 p.m.
The fire started suddenly at around 2:15 p.m. in the cargo village area, where imported goods are stored. Twenty-six fire service units were working to bring the blaze under control.
The airport authority said that immediately after the incident, the airport fire section, the Bangladesh Air Force fire unit and other agencies rushed to the scene and were working together to extinguish the flames.
