BANDARBAN — A mine explosion at the zero line of the Alikadam upazila border in Bandarban killed a Myanmar national and injured a Bangladeshi youth, officials said.
The blast occurred around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Hatamogpara area inside Myanmar, across the Poyamuhuri border.
The injured Bangladeshi was identified as Myangsar Mro, 30, son of Shangwan Mro of Garjanpara in the Kurukpata Union Parishad of Alikadam. The Myanmar national killed in the blast was identified as Menthyang, 40, son of Tanglay of Natun Para village.
According to local residents and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the two were going to inspect a jhum field when they stepped on a landmine planted by Arakan Army forces. Myangsar Mro was able to return to the scene injured, but Menthyang died on the spot. The incident occurred inside Myanmar in the Hatamogpara area.
Kratapung Mro, chairman of the Kurukpata Union Parishad, said he had heard about the incident from local residents. The location is in a remote area and could not be reached, he said.
