A joint-forces special operation in Hajiganj, Chandpur, has detained 12 people, including seven members of a teenage gang, an army camp confirmed in a press release on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday night, identified teen-gang members Rabiul Ahmed, Mainuddin Khan, Billal Kazi, Kazi Palash, Hridoy Hossain and Shafiqul Islam were arrested in the Toragar Hamidia Jute Mill area of Hajiganj municipality.
Four knives, a Chinese-made axe and three locally made weapons were recovered from them. They were later handed over to Hajiganj Police Station for legal action.
In a separate operation, three people — Hiron, Rashed and Shafiul Alam — were detained while taking drugs in an abandoned building of the Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex. Shamim Hossain was held with 20 pieces of yaba and Poly Begum with 50 pieces in the Toragar area. All were sent to Hajiganj Police Station for legal action.
Hajiganj Police officer-in-charge Mohiuddin Faruk said separate cases would be filed against those detained and they would be sent to a Chandpur court.
