GOPALGANJ — A 2-year-old girl drowned in a pond in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj on Sunday morning, police said.
Maliha Paik died in Bandabari village in Kotalipara. She was the daughter of Bayazid Paik of the same village.
Khandaker Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara police station, said Maliha had been playing in the courtyard in front of her house when she fell into a pond next door without anyone noticing. After a search, she was pulled from the pond and taken to the Kotalipara upazila health complex, where the duty doctor declared her dead.
The body was handed over to the family without an autopsy at the family’s request.
