CHOUGACHHA — India’s Border Security Force pushed nine Bangladeshis, including women and children, across the Mashila border in Jashore’s Chougachha upazila on Sunday afternoon following a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh, officials said.

The handover took place on Oct. 19 after a flag meeting between India’s Boyra BSF and Bangladesh’s Mashila BGB camp.

Those returned were identified as Abdur Razzak Khan, 47, his wife Khajida Akter, 35, and their son Master Abdullah Khan, 8, from Furiakhali village in Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat; Yasmin Khatun, 30, from Sylhet Sadar upazila; Razia Begum, 30, from Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur; Kajal Lipi, 45, from Mymensingh Sadar upazila; Liton Khan, 24, from Birol upazila in Dinajpur; Sunil Tudu, 26, from Bochaganj upazila; and Jahangir Hossain, 22.

Naik Subedar Farid Uddin, commander of the 49 Mashila BGB camp, said the BSF handed over the nine Bangladeshis in the afternoon through a flag meeting at India’s Bohera border. They were later placed in the custody of Chougachha police station.

Abdur Razzak Khan, one of those returned, said the group had been working in Goa, Haryana and Uttarakhand. The BSF had detained them and taken them to its camp before sending them back to Bangladesh through the flag meeting, he said.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chougachha police station, said the nine Bangladeshis were brought to the station in the evening. “Legal procedures by the police are ongoing in this matter,” he said.
