CHOUGACHHA, Bangladesh — A mobile court in Jashore’s Chougachha fined an unlicensed practitioner 20,000 taka, officials said.
The operation was conducted at about noon Wednesday, Oct. 22, and was led by Tasmin Jahan, the upazila assistant commissioner for land and executive magistrate.
The person fined was identified as Abdul Alim, 50, son of the late Abu Bakar Biswas of the Shankarpur area in Jashore Sadar upazila. He had been running a chamber as a so-called physician at the Adarsha Medical Hall, located on the ground floor of Saleha Market on the north side of the Power House intersection on the Chougachha-Jashore road.
According to mobile court sources, Alim had long been seeing patients and writing prescriptions under the title of assistant ENT physician and medical practitioner. He held no registration approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) required for medical practice.
He had been providing medical services at the chamber for about six to seven months and also saw patients daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Messrs. Alim Pharmacy at Gafur Mor in the Shankarpur area of Jashore Sadar upazila, sources said.
After the operation, Assistant Commissioner Tasmin Jahan said unlicensed doctors are confusing and deceiving ordinary people. “Mobile court operations will continue to prevent this type of fraud,” she said.
