Jamaat holds protest rally in Chougachha

JASHORE — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest march and rally Tuesday in Chougachha upazila of Jashore district to demand justice for the killings of Oct. 28, 2006, party officials said.

The rally was held at the Chougachha Press Club square in line with a central program demanding trial for the killings, which Jamaat says were carried out under the leadership of the Awami League. A procession followed the rally through the town, organizers said.

Upazila Jamaat amir Maulana Golam Morshed presided over the rally, which was conducted by upazila Jamaat secretary and Assistant Professor Nuruzzaman.

Speakers included upazila Jamaat naib amir Maulana Nurul Islam, working committee member and former union chairman Hafez Amin Uddin, assistant secretary Rahidul Khan, former panel mayor Master Kamal Ahmed, Gias Uddin, labor leader Tuhinur Rahman and youth wing leader Shah Alam.

After the rally, thousands of party workers joined a protest march that passed through various streets of the town, organizers said.
