DINAJPUR — Jamaat-e-Islami has elected Maulana Abul Kasem as the new amir of its Nawabganj upazila unit in Dinajpur district, party officials said.
The election was held recently in accordance with the central guidelines of the party and based on the opinions of the upazila shura members, officials said. Kasem was elected unanimously.
District Jamaat amir Principal Anisur Rahman formally administered the oath of office to Kasem at the Nawabganj upazila Jamaat office at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.
District Jamaat secretary Dr. Muhaddis Enamul Haque, assistant secretary Saidul Islam Saikat, upazila Jamaat secretary Rezaul Islam and professional wing secretary A. Rahim were among those present.
The previous amir of the Nawabganj upazila Jamaat unit, Professor Nazrul Islam, died of a heart attack early on Oct. 27, leaving the post vacant.
