JHENAIDAH — A seminar on preparing a master plan to build Jhenaidah into a planned, modern and prosperous district was held on Saturday.

The Jhenaidah Development Struggle Coordination Committee organized the seminar at the District Council Auditorium on Saturday morning. Doctors, teachers and leaders and activists from various political parties attended.

Speakers said Jhenaidah has abundant resources, but the failure to use them properly has left the district economically behind. They said the resources must be put to proper use, and that teachers and parents must increase oversight in education so children get a sound schooling and can lead the district to development. Violence and infighting also damage resources, they said, and hold people back economically and morally. Through awareness and the strengthening of values, they said, the district can move forward and become a national model for development.

Among those present were Kamal Azad Pannu, president of the Sadar Upazila BNP; Alamgir Hossain, the BNP general secretary; Ali Azam Mohammad Abu Bakar, the Jamaat-e-Islami district amir; Mostafizur Rahman, superintendent of the Sadar Hospital; Mumtazul Karim, district president of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Moazzem Hossain, president of the Jhenaidah Chamber of Commerce; Shakhawat Hossain, president of the district Gana Odhikar; the educationist and former principal Mohabbat Hossain Tipu; Engineer Abul Bashar, the committee’s general secretary; and lawyers Abdur Rashid Biswas and Shamsuzzaman Lucky of the District Bar Association, among others.
