Woman's body found under railway bridge in Kushtia, rape and murder suspected

KUSHTIA — Police recovered the body of a woman from under a railway bridge in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali on Saturday. She had injuries to her head. Police and her relatives suspect she was raped and killed.

The body of the 52-year-old woman was recovered around 11:30 a.m. Saturday from under the railway bridge near the Nandalalpur union parishad in the upazila.

The body was later sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The woman was a resident of a village in the upazila and is survived by her husband and children.

Local residents spotted the bloodied body of a woman under the railway bridge around 6 a.m. After receiving the news, the woman’s son arrived and identified the body. Police recovered the body around 11 a.m. and sent it to the morgue.

The woman’s son said: “My mother was mentally unstable. She left home a few days ago. Despite extensive searching, she could not be found. She was reportedly seen at Goyalanda railway station Friday morning. People went there but could not find her. In the morning we got news of the body and came to Kumarkhali, where we found my mother dead. There are injury marks on her head. Police suspect she may have been killed after being raped. The body has been sent to the morgue. No decision has been made yet on filing a case.”

Kumarkhali police station Sub-Inspector Abdur Rashid said: “The recovered woman had injury marks on her head. It is initially suspected that she was killed after being raped. The actual cause of death will be known after the autopsy report. No case has been filed yet.”
