MAGURA — Residents of Shalikha in Magura have accused a meat seller of secretly slaughtering a horse and selling its meat as beef.
Locals said meat seller Hiran Biswas of Shatpara village in Shalikha upazila slaughtered a horse early Sunday in a secluded spot behind his house on the bank of the Chitra River. When residents arrived at the scene, Hiran Biswas fled. They saw the slaughtered horse lying on the ground and informed Hazratty police investigation center.
Residents alleged that Hiran Biswas had long been deceiving people by selling horse meat as beef in the market.
Hazratty police investigation center Officer-in-Charge Sultan said officers went to the scene after receiving the report and saw a slaughtered horse lying there. The seller fled before police arrived, so no one was detained, he said.
