Seven hurt in Narail clash over local dominance

NARAIL — At least seven people were injured in a clash between two groups over local dominance in Lohagara upazila of Narail, police said. The clash occurred Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30, in Bardia-Mangalpur village of Kotakol union in the upazila.

Those wounded were identified as Prince Sheikh, 26; Bipul Mollah, 40; Rana Mollah, 30; Rasel Mollah, 30; Rafin, 16; Sourav Mollah, 14; and Milton Mollah, 30.

Police and local sources said an argument broke out around 3:30 p.m. between Bipul Mollah and Milton Mollah over dust from threshed paddy entering a house. Supporters of Nausher Mollah, backing Bipul, and supporters of Mojibar Member, backing Milton, then clashed using locally made weapons including spears and knives. Bipul was struck in the face by a spear during the fighting and was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

“Additional police have been deployed at the scene,” said Md. Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station. “The situation in the area is currently calm. Legal action in the matter is being processed.”
