Damurhuda task force fines three shops 9,000 taka

DAMURHUDA, Chuadanga — A district task force and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection fined three businesses a total of 9,000 taka on Sunday over failure to keep purchase and sale vouchers for eggs, missing price displays and the sale of expired goods.

Officials carried out the operation Sunday afternoon at Dugdugi Bazar and the Damurhuda bus stand area, inspecting shops selling eggs, onions, fish, meat, vegetables and other daily essentials, the directorate said.

Mohammad Sajal Ahmed, assistant director of the directorate, said Rajib Hossain, owner of Messrs. Rajib Store at Dugdugi Bazar, was fined 2,000 taka under sections 38 and 51 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 for failing to keep egg purchase vouchers and to display the price list for daily essentials. Shamim Hossain, owner of Messrs. Shamim Traders, was fined 5,000 taka under the same sections for selling expired pesticides, not displaying a price list for fertilizers, overcharging and failing to provide vouchers. Sudeb Halder, owner of Messrs. Kaushik Store, was fined 2,000 taka under the same provisions.

The operation was supported by district agricultural marketing officer Rasheduzzaman, student representative Mushfiqur Rahim, market committee leaders and a team from Chuadanga district police, officials said.
