CHUADANGA — India’s Border Security Force (BSF) handed over a Bangladeshi national to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through a flag meeting at the Darshana border in Chuadanga.
The flag meeting was held at 4 p.m. Friday (November 21) at the zero line near Main Pillar 76 of the Darshana land port checkpoint.
The returned national was identified as Hanif Khan, 47, son of Fayez Uddin from Ashrafpur village in Shibpur police station of Narsingdi district.
Five officials from the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) Darshana Company, led by Company Commander Subedar Md. Abul Hossain, took part in the meeting, along with five from the BSF’s 32 Battalion Gede camp, led by Company Commander Shiv Shankar Singh.
The BSF company commander handed over the citizen’s documents to his BGB counterpart at the meeting. After the documents were verified and the man was confirmed to be a Bangladeshi citizen, the BSF formally handed him over to the BGB.
The BGB said questioning revealed that the man had crossed illegally into India via the Sylhet border on November 7, having engaged a smuggler. He had traveled to Ajmer to visit the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. On November 20, while attempting to return to Bangladesh, he was detained by members of the BSF’s 32 Battalion Gede camp. After the flag meeting, the BSF handed him over to the BGB. He was then turned over to Darshana police, the BGB said.
