DHAKA — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and seven other parties have called on the government to accept a five-point list of demands before their Nov. 11 rally in the capital, the group’s secretary general, Mia Golam Parwar, said Thursday.
He spoke to reporters after an eight-party delegation submitted a memorandum of demands to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his official residence, Jamuna, on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Parwar warned that if the demands were not met, the situation in Dhaka on Nov. 11 could be different.
He urged the chief adviser to act as a referee in talks among political parties.
The eight parties plan to hold a rally in Dhaka on Nov. 11, and the government should accept their demands beforehand, he said.
“Accept the five-point demand and show respect for the popular aspirations of the July charter,” Parwar said. “Otherwise, the picture of the capital, Dhaka, on Nov. 11 will be different.”
Earlier, Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan received the memorandum on behalf of the chief adviser from representatives of the eight parties, Parwar said.
