DHAKA — Corrections to national identity cards, or NIDs, were abruptly halted without notice on Monday, hours before the previously announced 4 p.m. deadline.
Although authorities had said NID corrections would remain open until 4 p.m. on Nov. 24, the service was shut down before noon that day.
Authorities had earlier announced that all correction activities would stop after 4 p.m. on Nov. 24 to allow preparation of the voter list for the parliamentary election. Migration services would also remain suspended until further notice, they said, adding that further details would be communicated by formal letter.
