KUSHTIA — An experience-sharing meeting on local anti-corruption social movements was held Saturday morning at the Shilpakala Academy in Kushtia, organized jointly by the Committee of Concerned Citizens, or Sanak, and Transparency International Bangladesh, or TIB.
Asma Ansari Miru, president of Sanak, chaired the meeting. Sanak member Ashok Saha led the anti-corruption pledge. Speakers included TIB coordinator Kazi Shafiqur Rahman; Khulna cluster coordinator Firoz Uddin; Sanak members Rafiqul Alam Tuku, Dr. Sarwar Morshed, Nilima Biswas, Halima Khatun, Nazrul Islam, Mizanur Rahman Laki and Tariqul Haque Tariq.
Sanak vice president Shahjahan Ali gave the welcome address. TIB area coordinator Raihanul Islam presented a PowerPoint on experiences and challenges in the anti-corruption movement. The program was conducted by Sumaiya Khatun of the Youth Engagement Support Group and Imam Mehedi of the Active Citizens Group. Members of Sanak, YES and ACG participated.
Speakers said corruption was the main obstacle to building an inequality-free society, hindering economic growth, good governance and social justice. They called for a social movement against corruption, saying there was no alternative to building a corruption-free country to accelerate development. A cultural program was held in the afternoon.
