DHAKA — Bangladesh will admit students to government and private secondary schools through a lottery this year, with applications open from Nov. 21 through Dec. 5, education officials said Monday. The digital lottery is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 14.
The decisions were announced after a meeting of the Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee on Monday afternoon by Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, a committee member and director of secondary admissions at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
Mahmud Sohel said state-owned mobile operator Teletalk will provide technical support for the lottery process. Applications will be submitted online, and the lottery will be conducted digitally.
Schools previously admitted first-grade students through lottery without examinations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the lottery system was extended to all grades starting in the 2021 academic year. That process is being followed again this year.
