RAJSHAHI — The Yunus administration itself is sheltering collaborators of the ousted Awami League while Sheikh Hasina sends audio recordings from India to prepare sabotage at home, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Tuesday.

Rizvi spoke as chief guest at a discussion on National Solidarity Day organized by the Rajshahi University unit of Chhatra Dal on Tuesday afternoon.

“Sheikh Hasina kept democracy hidden under her skirt,” Rizvi said. “Begum Khaleda Zia was denied proper medical treatment. Now we are hearing that they will do something on the 13th — where does that courage come from? The government must be tough on collaborators. The money from Bangladesh Bank, the Padma Bridge, the flyovers, all of it is in the hands of the Awami League. They are using it to create sabotage and a back channel. With that money, Sheikh Hasina is sending audio messages from India to stoke sabotage.”

If the July Charter is not implemented, some people are saying the election will be held in 2029, he said. “That is the voice of fascism.”

“On Nov. 7 we won true independence,” Rizvi said. “The martyred President Ziaur Rahman played the biggest role at that time. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was struggling with a crisis of self-identity, and Ziaur Rahman rescued us from that crisis.”

On academic freedom, Rizvi said: “Educational institutions were also caught in the poisonous grip of fascism. There was no room for coexistence on campus then. Now there has been some change. The purpose of a university is to ensure freedom of education and expression. Chhatra Dal will keep that value at the center of its politics.”

Leaders of various levels of Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal also attended.

Chhatra Dal Central Organizing Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir told the meeting: “There were many irregularities and conspiracies in the Rakshu election. The administration could not ensure a level playing field. Even so, we should have done better. But we are not disheartened. Our struggle will continue. God willing, Chhatra Dal will do well in the upcoming student parliament election.”
