Thieves break into 3 shops in Chougachha, steal cash and goods

CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — Thieves broke the shutters of three shops at a market in Chougachha, Jashore, on Thursday night, making off with 278,500 taka in cash and goods, police said. The break-in occurred at Shafi Uddin Mallik Market in the municipal town. The targeted shops were Chougachha Digital Studio, Allahar Daan Homeo Hall and Suman Garments.

Rabiul Islam, owner of Chougachha Digital Studio, said Thursday was the weekly market closure day, so his shop had been shut all day. “I opened the shop in the evening, closed it around 9 p.m. and went home,” he said. “On Friday morning, the shopkeeper next door called me on my mobile, and I came to the shop.” The thieves broke the shutter, entered the shop and broke open the cash box, stealing 115,500 taka, he said. Sharifol Islam, owner of Allahar Daan Homeo Hall, said the thieves broke the shutter, entered the shop, broke open the cash box and stole 163,000 taka. The thieves then broke into Suman Garments through the shutter.

On Oct. 1, thieves cut through a ventilator at a grocery shop named Messrs. Shawon Enterprise at Press Club intersection in the municipal town and entered the premises. They stole about 150,000 taka in cash and goods worth more than 200,000 taka. Shop owner Abdul Majid filed a written complaint at Chougachha police station. Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chougachha police station, said police have received the complaints and an operation is underway to catch the thieves.
