DHAKA — The Bangladesh government will spend 25 crore taka (about $2.1 million) on a publicity campaign to create a festive atmosphere ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, officials said Tuesday.
As part of a public-awareness drive, the campaign will produce television commercials and video documentaries to be screened on LED activation caravans in 64 districts and 300 upazilas across the country, officials said.
The plan received in-principle approval at a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Officials said the campaign work must begin in November, and given the time constraint there is no scope to hire an event-management firm through open tender. The Culture Ministry proposed appointing Brand Solution Limited directly under the Public Procurement Rules (PPR) on grounds of state urgency. The cabinet committee reviewed and approved the proposal in principle.
Separately, the cabinet committee gave in-principle approval to a Food Ministry proposal to shorten the bid-submission window for the import of 300,000 tonnes of rice from 42 days to 15 days from the date of newspaper publication, citing state urgency in meeting rice procurement targets.
