DHAKA — The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised the price of gold in the local market, ending two consecutive price cuts, the association said.

The association raised the price of 22-carat gold by 2,612 taka per bhori to 209,520 taka, citing higher prices for refined gold in the local market.

BAJUS announced the new prices in a statement Wednesday night. The new rates take effect Thursday.

Under the new prices, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost 209,520 taka. The price of 21-carat gold is 203,000 taka per bhori, 18-carat is 171,426 taka per bhori, and traditional gold is 142,592 taka per bhori.

BAJUS said the prices do not include the government-mandated 5 percent value-added tax or the minimum 6 percent making charge set by the association. Making charges may vary depending on jewelry design and quality, it said.

BAJUS last adjusted prices on Nov. 18, when it cut the price of 22-carat gold by 1,364 taka per bhori to 206,908 taka. Prices for 21-carat were set at 197,495 taka per bhori, 18-carat at 169,291 taka, and traditional gold at 140,761 taka. Those rates took effect Nov. 19.

The latest adjustment is the 79th this year, with prices raised 54 times and cut 25 times. In 2024, gold prices were adjusted 62 times, with 35 increases and 27 decreases.

Silver prices remained unchanged. A bhori of 22-carat silver sells for 4,246 taka, with 21-carat at 4,047 taka, 18-carat at 3,476 taka, and traditional silver at 2,601 taka per bhori.

Silver prices have been adjusted nine times this year, with six increases and three decreases. Last year, silver prices were adjusted three times.
