DHAKA — The reinstatement of the caretaker government system will open a new horizon in the country’s politics, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said Thursday.
He made the remarks to reporters after a free medical and health care program at the University of Dhaka.
“The caretaker government has returned, and there will be discussions on how it will be formed,” Khasru said. “Fair elections are possible under a caretaker government. Many credible elections have been held under this system.”
He said the public had seen how far the country could fall back under an unelected government. Working with a popular mandate is easier than working under an unelected administration, he said.
