CUMILLA — At least 12 people were injured when Detective Branch police clashed with suspected drug dealers during a raid in Cumilla’s Debidwar upazila.
The clash occurred on Nov. 18 in Bhiralla village in the upazila.
Residents said the District Detective Branch police conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Bhiralla village based on confidential information.
Posing as buyers, the DB officers made contact with the suspected drug dealers, residents said. At one point they detained a suspect, Hasan Ahmed, 25, and recovered 1,000 yaba pills from him.
The drug dealers then attacked the officers, triggering a clash between police and the suspects. The fighting spread to villagers, leaving a total of 12 people injured, including police.
Police detained one person in connection with the incident. Hasan is the son of Ali Hossain of Bishnupur village in Fatehabad union.
Debidwar police station Officer-in-Charge Yasin confirmed the incident.
