TEL AVIV — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Saturday blamed Hamas for violating the ongoing ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and said Israeli forces had killed five of the group’s “senior members” in response to a Hamas attack.
In a post on X, the office said the Hamas attack occurred inside areas from which Israeli troops had withdrawn and which fall within a security perimeter known as the “Yellow Line.” Israel said those areas were supposed to remain calm under the terms of the ceasefire but that the Hamas assault had again destabilized the situation. “Today, Hamas once again breached the ceasefire by sending a terrorist into Israeli-controlled territory who attacked IDF soldiers,” the Israeli statement said. “In response, Israel killed five senior Hamas terrorists.”
Netanyahu’s office said Israel had so far fully complied with the ceasefire but Hamas had not. It called on mediators to compel Hamas to abide by the terms of the truce.
