CHATTOGRAM — A businessman was shot and robbed of cash as he rode home after closing his shop in the Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram, police said. The incident took place Thursday night near the western side of the rubber dam in the Roipara area of Bhujpur union. The businessman said two assailants on a motorcycle carried out the attack.

The wounded businessman was identified as Md. Ramzan Ali, 42. He runs an agent point for the mobile financial services firm bKash and also operates a cooling corner at the local market. He was shot in the leg.

Eyewitnesses said Ramzan Ali was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop, as he did every evening. Two men on another motorcycle blocked his path. One of them suddenly opened fire on him and snatched his cash bag before fleeing, the witnesses said. Local residents who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene and took Ramzan Ali to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Bhujpur police station Officer-in-Charge Mahabubul Haque said two motorcycle-borne robbers had followed the bKash agent after he left his shop. “We are trying to arrest the robbers,” he said.
