DHAKA — Jamaat-e-Islami has barred its candidates from using motorcycle rallies to campaign for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election after several accidents during the processions, the party said.
Motorcycle processions held in support of Jamaat-nominated candidates in various parts of the country had led to a number of accidents, the party said. Following the incidents, the party’s top leadership imposed the ban on motorcycle rallies in campaigns for its scales symbol.
The decision was conveyed Monday in a message to the media by the party’s secretary general, Professor Mia Golam Parwar.
Parwar said motorcycle rallies and processions had been observed in district and metropolitan constituencies ahead of the parliamentary election. In light of the accidents and injuries reported during those events, the Jamaat ameer had ordered an immediate ban on motorcycle rallies and processions in all district and metropolitan constituencies, he said.
