CHUADANGA — A workshop on environmentally sustainable and safe food production and market linkages for farmers was held Wednesday afternoon at the Go Green Center training room in Koshaghata, Damurhuda upazila.
The workshop, held Nov. 26, was organized under the Value Chain sub-project titled “Establishing Agro Ecological Learning Centers to Expand Environment-Friendly and Safe Food Production Methods.”
Al-Saba, agriculture extension officer for Damurhuda upazila, attended as chief guest. He stressed the importance of maintaining ecological balance in farm production and ensuring food safety, and promised support for proper marketing of farmers’ produce.
Farmers were briefed on the harmful effects of excessive pesticide use, which also raises production costs, the agriculture officer said. He warned that overuse of TSP fertilizer was lowering soil pH levels and urged farmers to switch to organic fertilizers.
Other participants included senior coordinator Kamruzzaman Juddha; Shakhawat Hossain, chief coordinator of the Agro Ecological project; Irfan Biswas, founder of Chuadanga Agro; and Salim Reza of Modern Agro.
Farmers attending the workshop were also advised on direct-to-consumer marketing channels for their produce.
