HABIGANJ — A schoolteacher was killed when a truck struck him during a morning walk in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj. The victim was identified as Rupajit Kor Raju. The accident happened around 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Bendarpul area of Natunbazar on the Dhaka-Sylhet regional highway.
Rupajit Kor Raju, 36, was an assistant teacher at Mirpur Sunshine Model High School in the upazila and the son of Nipesh Kor of Baniyagaon village.
Local sources said that on Sunday morning Raju Kor had seen his wife, a government employee, onto a bus at Mirpur Bazar bound for Kulaura before returning home. He then set out for a walk along the Mirpur-Sreemangal regional highway with two others from the area. Around 7 a.m., when they reached the Bendarpul area, a vegetable-laden truck heading toward Sreemangal hit them and sped away.
Rupajit Kor Raju and Furanjan Deb were seriously injured in the accident. They were rescued and taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Rupajit Kor Raju dead. Furanjan Deb, who was seriously injured, was referred to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Md. Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bahubal Model police station, said: “I have heard the news of the accident. A teacher has been killed.”
