Fisherman in Kaptai nets 23-kg catla fish

KAPTAI — A fisherman in Rangamati’s Kaptai upazila netted a 23-kilogram catla fish in the Karnaphuli river on Monday, Dec. 8. The fish was caught around dusk by local fisherman Ujjwal Mallik while fishing near the Koylar Dipughat area in ward 3 of Chandraghona union in Kaptai upazila.

Mallik sold the fish later that night to local residents in the Hari Mandir area for 1,000 taka per kilogram, fetching a total of 23,000 taka.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Mallik said he had gone fishing in the Karnaphuli river on Monday afternoon with a kachki net. Around dusk, near Koylar Dipughat, the large catla was caught in his net. The fish weighed 23 kilograms, he said, and he then sold it to local residents at 1,000 taka per kilogram.

He added that he had previously caught another large fish of about the same weight.
