CHATTOGRAM — A garment worker who had returned home from Dhaka for a visit was killed when a dry tree branch fell on his head in the Boalkhali area of Chattogram on Wednesday, hospital officials said.
Uttam Das, 42, died around 1 p.m. in the East Gomdandi Kaibartyapara of Ward No. 3 of the municipality, according to officials.
Das was the son of Gopal Das, a relative of the Ekushey Padak-winning drum player Binoy Banshi Jaladas. He had worked at a garment factory in Dhaka and had come home Tuesday.
A local resident, Brajendra Lal Das, said Uttam had gone to the Chandariya canal to bathe in the afternoon when a dry branch from a large mango tree on the canal bank fell on his head in the wind, seriously injuring him. He was rushed to the upazila hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Dr. Rajarshi Nag, the duty physician at the emergency department of the upazila health complex, said locals brought Das to the hospital around 1:30 p.m. “He was declared dead after examination,” Nag said.
