FENI — Thousands of Muslims joined Friday prayers at a divisional ijtema in Feni, where organizers said worshippers offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of the Muslim ummah.

The large Friday prayers were held on Friday, Dec. 12, at a field next to the Birinchi brickfield on the Feni-Chhagalnaiya road. The ijtema began the previous day, Thursday, Dec. 11, with an opening sermon after the dawn prayers.

Organizers said arrangements had been made for more than 100,000 worshippers. Canopies were erected across the Ranirhat field, water and electricity connections were set up, and a bicycle parking area was created. Worshippers from across the 11 districts of Chattogram division joined those arriving from India, Morocco, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Maulana Anas bin Mozammel, imam of the Kakrail Mosque of Tabligh Jamaat, led the prayers. The morning sermon was delivered by Syed Wasiful Islam, the senior leader of the Maulana Saad faction of Tabligh Jamaat and a top elder of the Kakrail Mosque.

Maulana Nur Uddin, a Tabligh Jamaat elder, said local worshippers from Feni joined the gathering on Friday in addition to those from the 11 districts of Chattogram division and several countries. The municipal authority arranged water supply, he said, and the administration provided security. More than 200 volunteers were assisting worshippers.

The three-day ijtema is scheduled to end about 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, with the closing prayer, organizers said.
