BANDARBAN — Police recovered the body of a 35-year-old man from a jungle in the Ruma upazila of Bandarban on Monday, officials said, and handed it over to the Bom Social Council (BMC) on Tuesday after an autopsy.
The body, identified as that of Lalram Sang Bom, was found about a kilometer northwest of Mayur Para in the Paindu union late Monday afternoon, police and local sources said. He is believed to have been killed three to four days before he was found, and the body had begun to decompose.
Members of the local Bom community identified the body. Bom’s home was in Chungsongpara, a village on the Myanmar border across the Keokradong hill in the Remakri-Prangsa union, about 50 km from Mayur Para, residents said. He worked as a motorcycle driver for hire.
Bandarban civil surgeon Dr. Mohammad Shaheen Hossain Chowdhury said the body had injuries to the head and neck and that those injuries were the preliminary cause of death.
Md. Sohrawardy, officer-in-charge of Ruma police station, said police recovered the partially decomposed body after being alerted by residents. Police could not reach the family in Chungsongpara because the area has no mobile phone network, he said. The body was handed to leaders of the Bom Social Council after the autopsy. The motive and the identity of the killers remain unknown.
