COX’S BAZAR — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has withdrawn the expulsion of a women’s wing leader in Teknaf, the party said in a statement.

Marjina Akter Siddiqui, whose expulsion has been withdrawn, serves as joint general secretary of the Cox’s Bazar district Mohila Dal.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP senior joint secretary general, recently.

Siddiqui said that at the start of 2024, she had broken party discipline during Awami League rule by contesting the upazila parishad election and was expelled at the time. “I was outside party activities from then on. But for some time I have been in touch with party leaders and workers. At one point I went to Dhaka, contacted the central leadership and acknowledged my mistake. The party forgave me and withdrew the expulsion order,” she said.

“I am very pleased,” she said. “From now on, I will work to secure the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the sheaf-of-paddy symbol.”
