COX’S BAZAR — Salahuddin Ahmed, a BNP standing committee member and the party’s sheaf-of-paddy candidate in Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua), visited the home of his rival, Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Abdullah Al Faruque, to offer condolences on the death of Faruque’s father.

Faruque’s father, Nurul Kabir, died at age 70. Ahmed traveled to Faruque’s home in Harbang, Chakaria, to convey his condolences.

Ahmed and his wife, BNP national executive committee member and former lawmaker Hasina Ahmed, arrived at the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate’s home around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Earlier that day, Ahmed campaigned for the sheaf-of-paddy ticket in Khutakhali, Dulahazara and Phasiakhali unions of Chakaria. The campaign was Ahmed’s first in his constituency in 17 years for the BNP’s election symbol, ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

Nurul Kabir died on Monday afternoon. His funeral prayer was held that evening at Harbang High School field.
