DHAKA — The government has decided to increase the construction cost of converting an 11.56-kilometer land-port highway from Ashuganj roundabout to Sarail roundabout into four lanes by 1.6383 billion taka (about $13.5 million).
The decision was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, presided over by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, at the Secretariat.
The meeting was told that the 11.56-kilometer road from Ashuganj roundabout to Sarail roundabout falls under the project “Conversion of the Ashuganj River Port-Sarail-Dharkhar-Akhaura Land Port Highway into Four Lanes (First Revised).” The construction cost of the road is being raised by 1.6383 billion taka, it said.
The first-revised development project proposal for the Ashuganj River Port-Sarail-Dharkhar-Akhaura Land Port Highway four-laning project was approved at 57.916 billion taka (about $475 million), according to officials.
Indian contractor Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. submitted a proposal for a revised contract value of 7.1727 billion taka under Variation Order-1 of construction works for package number WP-01 (Part-1) of the project.
An internal variation/addendum proposal review committee formed by the Roads and Highways Department visited the project area and agreed on the need for the variation and the increase in the quantity of items.
