AKHAURA, Brahmanbaria — India’s Border Security Force (BSF) detained a Bangladeshi youth named Munna, 18, after he tried to enter India illegally through the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria. The incident occurred at dawn on Wednesday, Dec. 17, but became known only that night.
The detained youth is the son of Md. Shah Alam Mia, an auto-rickshaw driver from Bautala village in Mogra union.
Munna’s family said they could not contact him from Wednesday morning. Border-area residents later told them BSF had detained him. They confirmed the report through relatives in Agartala.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, commanding officer of 60 BGB, said Munna was a known drug dealer with several narcotics cases against him at the Akhaura police station. He had recently been released from jail and again become involved in the drug trade, Rahman said. Munna entered at least 300 yards inside India through the Bautala border point of Akhaura at dawn Wednesday when BSF detained him along with narcotics, the officer said.
BSF said in contact with BGB that Munna had been handed over to Indian police. He will be handed over to BGB after necessary formalities are completed, the force said.
