SAPAHAR, Naogaon — Abdullah Hil Kafi, secretary of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sapahar upazila unit, has died after being beaten with sticks by robbers in Naogaon’s Sapahar.

He died Saturday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The slain Jamaat leader was the son of Maulana Abdur Rahim of Kawabhasa village in Sapahar upazila.

Sapahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Palash Chandra Deb confirmed the incident.

The officer-in-charge said Abdullah Hil Kafi was returning home by motorcycle Friday night after a meeting at the party office. When he reached the Saidpur Bridge area of the Sapahar-Jaboi Beel road in the upazila, a group of miscreants stopped his vehicle. They then beat him with locally made weapons and fled. Some party workers later rescued him and took him to the upazila health complex. The attending doctor referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he died while undergoing care on Saturday.
