KHETLAL, Joypurhat — A local volunteer organization provided free eye care services in Joypurhat’s Khetlal upazila on Saturday.
The eye camp, organized by the Tarun Manabkalyan Yuba Sangstha, was inaugurated Saturday morning by Upazila Executive Officer Sanjida Chowdhury at the Thana Bazar Khoshbadan G U Alim Madrasa in the municipal center on Dec. 24.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Sajjad Parvez attended as the special guest. He said the free eye care service brought relief to local people. “I hope such public welfare initiatives will continue in the future,” he said.
The daylong camp provided various treatments, including eye problem diagnosis, vision testing, power measurement and cataract screening. Patients needing advanced treatment were referred separately.
Several patients receiving services, including Chamchul, said the free service had been a great help to them. “Village people rarely get such an opportunity,” they said.
Shahinur Alam, general secretary of the Tarun Manabkalyan Yuba Sangstha, said: “We took this initiative to bring this service to disadvantaged people ahead of winter. Such programs will continue in the future.”
