Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has split from his longtime partner and close associate Shivon Zilis.
Musk is chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX. Zilis has worked as an executive and adviser at several of his companies, and the two became a couple through that work, living together and having four children.
Zilis said their relationship went from love to separation within about a week, without any warning. She hopes she and Musk will remain good friends and will continue as co-parents to their children.
In recent years Musk has been busy with political and government work and has attended events with influential political figures, where Zilis was often seen at his side. She also stood by him in various legal disputes, and in May testified at a hearing in Musk’s legal fight with OpenAI’s co-founders, which drew wide attention.
Musk has had several relationships and is known to have at least a dozen children with different women. He has been in legal disputes over custody more than once.
Zilis told a court that in 2020 Musk offered to donate sperm so she could have children through IVF, and about a year later they became the parents of twins, in great secrecy. Business Insider first reported the twins’ birth in 2022.
Writing on X, Zilis said: “There is pain in losing a lot. But fortunately we have brought four beautiful little children into this world in a loving life.”
