A mother in Chirirbandar, Dinajpur, is reported to have killed her two young children and then taken her own life.
The incident took place at about 7pm on Sunday, 18 October, in Mostafapur village in the upazila.
The dead are housewife Sworna Akter, 22, her four-year-old son Safayet and her one-year-old daughter Raifa Moni.
According to initial information, Sworna Akter is alleged to have strangled her two children and then hanged herself with a scarf. The exact cause and circumstances of the deaths have not been confirmed. Witnesses said “This story is over” was written on a wall of the house. Who wrote it, and whether it has any connection to the deaths, has not been established.
Mahmudun Nabi, officer-in-charge of the police station, said: “On receiving the information, police went to the scene and recovered the three bodies. It is initially believed that the woman strangled her two children over family discord and then hanged herself.”
The OC said her husband, Shakil Hossain, an easy-bike driver, had been taken into police custody. Legal steps are being taken to establish the exact cause of the three deaths.
