A court in Rangamati has sentenced the sole accused to death in the widely discussed murder of housewife Halima Begum Sumi in Kaptai. The convict is Md Mohibur Kamal, also known as Mohibullah.
Md Ahsan Tarek, judge of the Rangamati District and Sessions Judge’s Court, delivered the verdict on Tuesday, 6 October. The convict was also fined Tk 50,000.
According to the case, Halima Begum was killed on the night of 11 March 2022 in an abandoned bathroom of BFDC Primary School in the Kaptai area, where her head was crushed with a brick.
The accused then set fire to the body to destroy the evidence. The court gave its verdict after a long hearing and the examination of witnesses and evidence.
